Yoel Romero Forced to Withdraw from BKFC Knucklemania 6 Co-Main Event
In a surprising turn of events, Yoel Romero, the former UFC title contender known as "The Soldier of God," has had to pull out of a highly anticipated matchup at BKFC's signature event, Knucklemania 6.
This decision comes after Romero was hit hard by a severe strain of the flu, leaving him unable to compete as planned against Lorenzo Hunt. In his absence, BKFC’s top-ranked pound-for-pound fighter, David Mundell, will take over and face Hunt in an exciting catchweight bout at 199 pounds.
A Disappointing Setback
Romero released a heartfelt statement through BKFC, expressing his disappointment, stating, "Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from my scheduled fight against Lorenzo Hunt at KM6 due to a very strong strain of the flu. During my weight cut for RAF, I felt my immune system was low, and I was feeling very weak. A few days after my January 10 match, I started to experience severe flu symptoms.
"I am extremely disappointed but I’ve been unable to train, and I need to prioritize my health. I look forward to returning to action to face Lorenzo Hunt at a later date, which is already being arranged by BKFC."
Romero recently competed twice in the RAF organization, achieving victory over Pat Downey on December 20, only to lose to Stephen Buchanan on January 10. He made his debut with BKFC on September 12, where he impressively knocked out Theo Doukas in the second round at BKFC 80, and he has also claimed two wins under the Dirty Boxing promotion.
Upcoming BKFC Event Details
The co-main event featuring Hunt and Mundell will be part of the BKFC Knucklemania 6 card, set to take place on February 7 at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. The event will be headlined by a heavyweight title bout between Ben Rothwell and Andrei Arlovski, promising an exciting night for fight fans.
