Metacritic Unveils The Ten Lowest-Rated Video Games Of 2025, And We Have Thoughts On The Top Pick
Fraser Gilbert, Pure Xbox
It’s that season when we not only celebrate the year’s best games but also shine a light on the year’s least-loved titles. Metacritic has done just that by highlighting the lowest-scoring games of 2025, restricted to titles that received at least four professional reviews and released within the calendar year. When a game released on multiple platforms, the lowest-rated version is the one that gets spotlighted.
Here are the 10 lowest-rated games of 2025 as per Metacritic:
1) MindsEye — 28 (PS5)
2) Fire Emblem Shadows — 37 (iOS)
3) Blood of Mehran — 38 (PS5)
4) Spy Drops — 39 (PC)
5) Gore Doctor — 40 (PS5)
6) Tamagotchi Plaza: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition — 43 (Switch 2)
7) Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator — 44 (PS5)
8) QUByte Classics: Glover — 44 (PS5)
9) Scar-Lead Salvation — 44 (PS5)
10) Fast & Furious: Arcade Edition — 45 (PS5)
A quick note: none of the listed games show “(Xbox)” next to them. That’s largely because Xbox releases aren’t reviewed as frequently as PS5, PC, or Switch versions these days. Metacritic also doesn’t provide filtering for Xbox titles with fewer than seven professional reviews, which makes direct cross-platform comparisons challenging. For what it’s worth, MindsEye holds a 33 rating on Xbox as well, and older Xbox entries like Star Wars Episode I: Jedi Power Battles and Fast & Furious Arcade Edition often surface first in search results with ratings around the mid-50s.
Is MindsEye really the worst game of 2025? Our take is nuanced: while it earned a harsh rating, there’s genuine fun to be found if you set expectations accordingly. The development team has been actively working to fix bugs and improve the experience since launch. It isn’t a flawless masterpiece, but it isn’t irredeemable either, especially now that it has dropped in price and offers a more polished bargain-bin experience. If nothing else, it demonstrates how a game can be rough at launch yet still offer small, memorable moments with the right approach.
What do you think about the Metacritic list? Do you agree MindsEye deserved the top spot, or do you see another title on the list as the most disappointing of 2025? Share your opinions in the comments below. And if you’ve played MindsEye, tell us whether you found it enjoyable despite its flaws.
