CCW PERMITS: ACTION REQUIRED
This is where the rubber meets the road! After much deliberation and consultation with outside sources, Hawaii Concealed Carry requires your assistance. We need all qualified persons to apply for a concealed handgun permit with the State of Hawaii, in whatever county you reside. We encourage Big Island, Kauai, and Maui to also apply within their respective county.
Don’t know if you are qualified? Please follow this checklist:
(1) I’m at least 21 years or older.
(2) I’m qualified to use the firearm in a safe manner
(this means you have taken a LIFE course, NRA course, Handgun Permit Class, are military, prior law enforcement, or have in some other way met the requirements to purchase a handgun previously in this state);
(3) Not be prohibited under section 134-7 from the ownership or possession of a firearm; (Are you under TRO? Domestic Violence etc.)
(4) Not have been adjudged insane or not appear to be mentally deranged. (Has a court told you that you are unfit mentally)
You will be asked by the department to provide a narrative of why you want to carry weapons. This is not in the statute, but is recommended. These reasons can be things such as: ” I wish to protect my family “, “I had someone threaten me”, “Self-Defense“, “I have been assaulted”, “Domestic Violence victim” etc.
We also have many of the files already created for you!
** Application Instructions **
If you are military, and have previously been fingerprinted by the state for your transfer weapons they will ask you to pay another 19.25 cents, in exact change. We are currently investigating the legalities of this charge, at this time we recommend just to pay it. Document that you paid it and forward that information along.
We do have a few requests for thingswe want you to do during this entire process! THIS IS IMPORTANT
The most important being to document everything along the way. What officers did you speak with? What did the officers say to you? What did they tell you? Did the officers discourage you from applying? Did they say you wouldn’t get it? Did they say only xxxx people get these? We encourage you to be as descriptive as possible!
– We need this information, and the follow on information that they send you. We request any and all correspondence from the state regarding these permits. The information will be kept with a high regards to secrecy. Please feel free to sharpie out your name and address if you like, but I ask you provide a way for us to contact you. If you have any creepy skeletons in the closet, that would come out during your application process, it might be in your best interest to contact us.
Get this information out! We need this to build awareness about our rights in this beautiful state. Any questions? Contact Chris — Chris@hawaiiccw.com

I am a life member of the NRA since 1986; I am an Life Endowment member of the NRA. I have 4 CCW permits: California, Nevada, Utah & Florida. Will the Hawaii CCW permit have reciprocity with other states?
Will Hawaii have reciprocity with other states? Will it accept non resident applications?
If so, please let me know and I will apply for one now!
Bill,
We are looking into whether or not Hawaii will accept non-resident applications. I will have a report back on this within the next few days.
Hawaii, sadly, does not accept any ones permit. What is quite interesting, is we don’t even accept permits from different counties within our own state.
A person with a CCW permit in Hawaii county is still not able utilize that permit in Honolulu county.
So can we all apply for permits in every county?
Sounds like the CCW law in your state is a joke! We need to wake up the state government.
Keep us posted please. I have permits from PA, UT and CT and travel to Hawaii on business. I’ll certainly apply.
Unfortunately, Hawaii is a “may issue” state, which translated in Hawaii-speak means “may NOT issue” as I understand NO ONE has ever been issued a permit to carry a firearm in the City & County of Honolulu (with the exception of 1 who was a civilian employee of the Police Department, not a cop, but that was some time ago). Yes, it IS a joke and will NEVER happen unless the voters of Hawaii get smart enough and kick out all the liberal Democrats out of the Legislature and elect conservatives (either Republicans or DINOs; Democrat-In-Name-Only).
I live on Maui and was wondering whom I need to contact over here to get my application moving
I am an American and I believe in the 2Amendment the right to bear arms and protect my family
Strong work, Chris.
I am a graduate of the FBI Citizen’s Academy, a member of Federal Law Enforcement Foundation, NRA and HRA. I am currently training to become a firearms instructor.
I will apply for a CCW per your instructions, to protect myself, my friends and my family.
Much Aloha
I will be watching this site for further updates. I hold a CCW in WA and if possible, I will apply for one in Hawaii. I am curious about something though… why does the law make the distinction for retired LEOs, but not for retired military?
Chris,
I’m not sure if this is how to contact you but it is worth a try.
On Easter Sunday morning , April 2009 there was an attempt to kill myself and my partner … It did not work… we servived,
You can read all about it in the Wed. August 5th. 2009 edition of the Honolulu Advertizer. story title “Swimming for their lives”.. The legal battle to get “justice” was a joke, I can tell you all about that, show you the legal court papers, but my point is — this case might be a good case to forse the CCP issue.
